Ten Years In: The Next Chapter of the Ratio Eight

Ten years ago, I set out to build a coffee machine that would bring the vibrant taste of pour over coffee to a modern, automatic coffee maker format. I wanted something that felt as good to use as it looked on the counter; a machine made from real materials like metal, wood, and glass. It needed to be super simple to use, with just one button. And it needed to be beautiful. That idea became the Ratio Eight.

In the decade since, the Eight has continued to be recognized for its unique form and gentle style of extracting all that delicious nuance from roasted coffee. Along the way, it’s taught me and our team a lot—not just about brewing, but about what it takes to evolve a product while staying true to its original purpose.

Today, I'm proud to introduce the next chapter: the Ratio Eight Series 2.

The new version carries forward everything that made the original special: the cantilevered form, juxtaposition of wood, metal and glass, and a brewing routine inspired by pour over. We’ve made a number of subtle but meaningful improvements—a redesigned thermal carafe, a stainless steel showerhead and flat filter basket, and a brewing interface that lets you toggle between full and half-batch brews with a simple long press of the single button on the Eight. Isn’t minimalism beautiful?

One of the most noticeable updates is the shift in the body material. The Series 2 body is made of a matte-finished, BPA-free polymer with a reinforced metal structure. This wasn’t a decision we took lightly, but after years of making the original Eight, we found that this new material resists moisture, heat, and wear more effectively over time. It also makes the machine easier to clean and allows us to achieve better consistency in production—without compromising the signature Ratio feel of heft and precision.

Where it really matters—anywhere water touches coffee—we removed plastic entirely. The internal hot water path is made of stainless steel, handblown glass, and food-grade silicone. It makes for a cleaner cup, and a more satisfying experience.

You may also notice that the Series 2 is no longer made in the U.S. This was another big decision. We've partnered with the same high-quality manufacturing team that has produced our Ratio Six and Four brewers going back to 2019. They understand our design philosophy, share our commitment to quality, and give us the ability to deliver a consistent product at global scale. We remain committed to supporting all our Eight owners—past and present—with spare parts, service, and care.

The Eight Series 2 is the result of everything we’ve learned over the past ten years. It holds onto the soul of the original while evolving where it counts. I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve built, and I hope it brings something meaningful to your daily coffee ritual.

To great coffee, every day!
